TUSQ Standard Pick .68mm Gray (Deep), One Pick

This pick has good tone but feels much stiffer than .68 mm. I like the tusq biangle picks much better.

Being a big fan of Tortoise-shell picks, I'm always on the lookout for good quality picks. Actually, I purchased all three styles in the standard and teardrop shapes. What's interesting to me about these picks is that, even though I ordered all three styles in a 0.68 gauge, each of them sounds different from the others! White is bright - Vintage is warm - Gray is deep! They even have a little bite, or grip, on the strings - similar to genuine tortoise. If you're looking for a different sound and feel from your picks...give these a try. I think they're great and can't make up my mind which color I like best. I should also say that I'm primarily a solo Jazz-guitarist and play medium-gauge roundwound strings (13-56).

I'm a ukulele player and have recently started playing the baritone uke. I have some songs that sound great strummed but the plastic Dunlop picks that I use on my guitar sound very dull on the fluorocarbon strings. My fingernail, however, sounds very bright and clean on the Oasis strings I use. I was thinking, man it'd be great to have a pick made out of bone (i.e. TUSQ) that had the hardness of my finger nail. I went to graphtech.com and Voila! I noticed that you could only buy six packs there so I moseyed over to stringsbymail.com to discover that they sold singles. I ordered .68mm white, yellow, & grey to try all of the different tones. To my surprise, the strings sound less like my fingernail and more like the plastic Dunlop. I was so hoping my theory was correct. The only thing I can figure is that when holding the pick in the flesh of the fingers they dampen the rigidity of the TUSQ pick and reduce the effect of it's hardness to act on the strings like the fingernail. I like the quality and feel of the picks and will use them. They just didn't meet my "personal, possibly unrealistic" expectation of a fingernail like sound from fluorocarbon ukulele strings.
