GHS La Classique 9423 - 3rd string (g) .023 Winter Silver wound

Good alternative to the conventional nylon or carbon 3rd string if a brighter tones with louder harmonics are preferred. It mixes well with other carbon trebles; e.g., Savarez Alliance. The gauge is almost ½ of the nylon/carbon counterparts and is with higher tension. An adjustment period is needed for full bar positions because of the thin gauge and higher tension on the 3rd. It’s probably not for everyone or for every performance occasion and could well be guitar specific; e.g., it sounds too bright on my 2013 Ruck cedar/Brazilian but just right on the 2019 Hilhorst cedar/ziricote; so a bit of trail and error may be needed for a proper mix.

Very good alternative to the typical nylon or carbon 3rd string. It sounds brings and clear but it produces quite a bit of finger noise due to the wounding. I guess we just can't have it all. I pair it with the Savarez Cantiga Premium Alliance set in high tension. The GHS wound 3rd blends in quite well with the carbon trebles. Now I'll just have to develop some noise reduction techniques in order to avoid distraciing finger noises during performances. The wounding is very thin due to necessary gauge requirements and durability may be an issue. After 2 hours of playing, the string already shows pressure marks from the frets. Despite the minor shortcomings, it remains a good option for those who want a clearer intonation and harmonics.

The wound G string sounds so good on my classical. But SBM is so much more than that to me. Getting an email back from Matt educating me about strings in general was personal service that means I won't ever buy strings from anywhere else again. Furthermore, the instruments on their site are amazing. I just got the Guild bass and can't wait for it to show up. I know Guild's quality from my 1973 Guild S300-D so that bass is going to be a dream. SBM are obviously experts at a ninja level.

sounded grate for about a day but broke while tuning

the 3rd wound string has good tone and clarity and sustain and feels good on the fingers. I don't know why other manufacturers bother to make solid nylon 3rd strings , none of them I have tried sound good
