Pepe Romero Strings GRNM Classical Guitar Rectified Nylon NT, Full Set

I play with out nails and heard that these might be good for that technique. I find that that is the case. The trebles give my right hand just a little more grip that allows me to play with more volume and confidence. I think that these will be my go-to strings in the future.

After years trying out various strings for my Lucio Nunez lattice-braced classical, I settled on Pepe Romero normal tension strings as being the best, with second place going to Augustine. The trebles are terrific sounding and feel good on the fingers, and the bass strings can really be pushed hard while maintaining a solid tone.

These are one of my favorite nylon sets. What sets them apart is the feel and tone of the rectified trebles. I use these on the classical guitar I keep in 4:40=A tuning. Because I have been been playing no nails for a while on gut strings tuned down to 4:15=A and also 3:92= A, these rectified trebles give me the same feel at concert pitch. I only wish Pepe offered them in a lower tension than normal, for that I use Pyramid Very low tension rectified set. They have the same feel but are costly.

These trebles have the best sound and feel for rectified. I have tried both Savarez and La Bella rectified, and I personally think these Romero's have the best overall sound. The Savarez 520B had more grip (which I like) and a better tonal balance between bass and trebles, but the trebles were just too dry and sometimes brittle sounding. The La Bella RN-L were nice because they were not thin at all for low tension strings and had very good intonation, but I just thought the sound was dull and a bit too dark. These Romero GRNM have a very nice tactile feel and response. The trebles are on the darker/cooler side, but can produce a very wide range of tones and colors. The sound is a good match for classical and surprisingly lively enough for some south American style Jazz. I even sometimes forget that they are rectified, until my left hand moves and my fingers grip and drop right where I want them too. I also have never been a fan of the bright metallic sounding basses (which these are), but for some reason I really enjoy the way these basses mix with the trebles and do not mind the harsher sound. The biggest downside I noticed is that after about two weeks, the intonation of the trebles has become very unreliable. This was not a problem at first, so it could just be my guitar or the changing weather: only further testing will tell. Overall, on my Port Orford Cedar top guitar, I think these strings have a nice classical sound and a great tactile responsiveness.

These strings were bought for a Cedar top Prisloe classical guitar. Although they were not bad they weren’t particularly good either. Mediocre is the term that comes to mind. I am not and have never been a fan of rectified nylon trebles. In fact I wasn’t paying attention when I ordered these strings but since I bought them I did at least give them a try. The bass strings were pretty tight and focused but the itchy, scratchy and chalky feel of the trebles was horrible. I do allot of recording and these treble strings are way too noisy. I can see how these would do well for live performance but for my tastes I just can’t get past the rough texture of rectified nylon. They just don’t have that sweet tone that clear nylons seem to have. Again my bad for not paying better attention but at least I can say that these strings are just not for me.
