Aquila AG x AQ Tenor Ukulele Strings, Unwound Low G, 162U

Absolutely love these strings. The sustain is long and beautiful

This is follow up review about the this string set. I installed last night and happy about the sound. I practiced and played a out 2 hours. When. Sadly, I woke up this morning the 4th string unwound low G already snapped! And so my $8 I spent to buy this string. Did not even made it to my jam session.

This is my first time to use this.
I use this to replace my dAdario T65LG set which only last for few months with my Honolua Koahala Electric Acoustic solid top Acacia Ukulele but kinda don't like the sound. I'm about to toss it but decided to install it with my Mitchell MUT-70S solid top which replacing my pepe romoero dGBE baby Baritone strings set. It turned out fantastic and loving the sound during test play.

Hope it will last on performance because the 4th string is thicker than wound and little tight in the saddle.

If one wants to go with the low G, I recommend making sure the nut opening is widened up to allow for the thicker string. Even though this string was not "wound," it was still rough enough that it got bound in the nut opening and broke. Thankfully I was able to fish my old low G string out of the garbage and reinstall it. I don't remember what brand my old one is (it's dark red tho), but it's very smooth and doesn't bind in the nut opening even thought the opening has not been widened.

I had heard mixed reviews about unwound low G strings for ukulele so I decided to try it out myself. When I first put it on my ukulele it seemed very thick and hard to keep enough pressure to make good sounding chords. I was about to change it right away but decided to give it a few days. It turned out that I got used to the extra needed pressure and now I love the sound. What I love most is that it has the same sound quality as my other nylon strings and not the metal twang of a wound low G string. I’m keeping it!
