I consider this to be a magical string in that the tone/brightness is just what I want but the tension is considerably lower than many other "medium tension" 4th strings. The D'Addario composites also seem to be a bit less flexible with respect to bending, which reduces various types of buzzing.

i was trying to put a set of four strings together for a nylon string tenor guitar. it has a mahogany top, and nylon strings sounded dull, so i've been using d'addario fluorocarbon strings, for their brighter sound, but paying for six strings. i thought of buying a set of d'addario's fluorocarbon trebles, but there are no fluorocarbon D strings available as single bass strings. matt suggested i try the J4504C composite D string. in my opinion it is a much better bass string than the one that comes with the full fluorocarbon set. it also has the same diameter. and i save a lot of money. thanks to matt for recommending them.
