Savarez Traditional 520B_Bass LT Classical Guitar Strings, Bass Set

These work well on a flamenco, they are also easy on my arthritic left pinky. I was under the false impression that higher tension strings produce higher db's but on my lightly braced flamenco it's the opposite, the top isn't as dynamic with the tension.

I have been playing ( off and on, and now virtually always ) Savarez traditionl 520 ( red card ) basses for over 50 years... To be fair, string design, tension, "feel", whatever is fairly well established among all the makers now. Regardless of price, everyone makes a very competent string. So, the one little bit of extra that I get from Savarez traditional strings can be and is only subjective. And it is only that I can offer by way of a "review"; they just feel the best to me feeners.

These are the best strings I have found for my 1966 Manuel Velazquez. They are not perfect, though. I still am not thrilled about the rough finish. I need low tension strings due to residual hand problem of tendinitis. I tried another hand made Italian low tension string recently, and did not like the sound. Full, but too “rounded” and a bit boring. You could even see the reduction in overtone frequencies in a phone-based spectrum analyzer. The 520B has the brilliant, “alive" sound that I like, and you can see it in the overtones in the spectrum analyzer. Also, the quality and consistency in Savarez strings is outstanding. I have used them for decades without experiencing a bad string. The handmade Italian set I bought recently had a defective “D” string. It sounded like a kazoo, and when I took it off, it curled up into a ball. I have never seen a string do that in the 54 years I have been playing.
