Martin MTCN160 Titanium Core Acoustic Guitar Strings Light 12-55

I put these strings on a Martin LX, which may seem like christening a rowboat with Dom Perignon, given how much these strings cost. However, the LX is my beater, and I can count on the strings lasting a long time despite the abuse. Their sound is a bit outside the norm, which is why I don't give them 5 stars. But Martin acknowledges that; they are what they are.

These strings are notorious for breaking. Maybe a few people get lucky sometimes, but just look around at every site online and read the reviews. SNAP CITY. Most of the time they break. Which sucks because they’re $40 a pack 😆

They sound amazing though. Nickel has a much different sound than bronze so it’s nice to switch it up from time to time.

These are nickel wrapped, titanium core, in case you missed that part.

I played these for a month and no breaks! I was happy. I put my acoustic away from 1.5 months and when I came back they all started breaking.

Great sound, fun to play, but these strings need improvement. I’ve tried them 3 times now and all of the strings snap eventually (usually within the first 1-4 weeks) except the 2 steel strings which only sometimes break lol.

These were purchased for use on a (Little) Martin LX, the main intent being to have strings that will last a while on a guitar that gets knocked around and abused. As expected, the tone of these strings is a bit laid-back, not as lively as bronze strings, but the previous set held up for three years, and I would expect these to last as long.

I was intrigued by these strings when they came out but was put off by the price. I have a Martin D-28 and a Vintage D Bourgeois and have used the Martin Tony Rice Monels for years. I play bluegrass.

After some research, I decided to take the plunge and try a set on both guitars. I was not disappointed. To my ear, the low E, A, D and G strings were much "tighter" and clearer with a full bright sound. the B and high E strings were bright. I think they sound better than the monels on my guitars.

Will a set of $40 strings last five times as long as the $8 monels - time will tell. I changed the monels about once a month and have been using the titaniums for 4 months and the titaniums still sound the same - no dead strings At this point I would say they will last 5 times as long.

At least try a set. We spend $40 on much more frivolous stuff without any potential for a great reward. Take the plunge... Charlie
