Aquila Alchemia Light Tension Guitar Strings 158C, Full Set

Designed in three degrees of tension – light, normal and superior – the Alchemia Trebles are made using a recently discovered Italian blend of a plastic material derived from sugar-cane and a certain percentage of Nylgut. The sound of these strings is clearly bright like Fluorocarbon strings, clean and prompt.

The strings have an excellent vibrato and a remarkable timbre variation when moving the right-hand from near to the bridge to over the sound hole. In other words, in their extremes they provide all the sweetness and melodiousness of gut together with the brightness and promptness typical of Fluorocarbon.

Another characteristic property is sustain, which by scientific measurements has been proven to be superior to any other type of string currently available in the market. Another measured feature is the sound power: our scientific tests have shown that it is superior to Fluorocarbon strings, but it’s lower than the projection given by the Sugar set. Although the surface is extremely smooth, the grip on the fingers is remarkable; in other words it is never slippery.

In the event of a squeaking sound, that can appear only at the beginning under the right hand fingers, it is suggested to use a hand lotion.

Aquila Alchemia LT strings

The tone of the strings was quite good, but they were extremely squeaky, much like sugar strings are. I will stick with the Aquila Alabastro LT (Nylgut)

Perfect string for baroque guitar

I bought a 6 string baroque style guitar from thomann and the thick nylon strings that came stock on it were weird. This guitar doesn’t have courses just 6 strings. Body style, neck, and tuning pegs are baroque. I got it right the first time with these Alchemia Light Tension strings. Baroque guitars have very low tension strings and this guitar has medium high action. These light tension achieve multiple things. Authentic string tension and authentic lute/baroque guitar sound quality. I don’t feel the need to experiment with any different string type or tension on this instrument. Such a pleasure to play.

1st (E) broke within a few hours, otherwise okay?

I've only been playing classical for a year now, but I change my strings pretty regularly and this is about the 9th set of various types (including the 4 other Aquila types) I've put on my guitar (Lucero LC230S Solid Cedar/Laminate Back), I've never broken any string until the high E (1st) just broke while i was playing and tuning them up after putting them on a few hours ago. Never had that happen before. It just snapped while playing a pretty mild piece (Andantino, Op. 241, No. 5 by Carulli). My house stays at a very consistent 46-52% humidity and the string have been sitting near the guitar for a week now acclimatizing so it's not some dramatic shift for them I wouldn't think.

In some ways, it's fine, the high E was the worst sounding string of the pack, it's okay, but not great on this Lucero Cedar. I was mulling over putting a spare used hannabach nylon E on it to see, but now my hand is forced, so that's what I'll do.

If yours doesn't break, they sound fine and play okay so far.

A: We heard back from Aquila and although they do not have data for the 158C set they suggested we reference Alabastro light as a close comparison.
