Oasis Fluorocarbon Uke Baritone, Double Set

Strings are great, I have had them before. I didn't know you were out there. My friend Gene is talking to you about Hurdy Gurdy strings I hear. It's a problem getting the right gauges for those without buying much unneeded stuff. Service was great, and I didn't need amazon. Thanks

I had posted a review earlier and here are some additional thoughts and a revised star rating.

SBM and Oasis were eager to resolve my low rating so I revisited my evaluation. They are both great companies to deal with. Thank you for your help.

I have looked at many other string options and tried a few and I came to the conclusion that there are three ways to get a low D on a Baritone: 1) Metal wound strings 2) Very high diameter fluorocarbon (>0.040 inch, 1mm) or 3) Slack ~0.035 inch strings. There is no other option and if you do not like option 1, then something has to give. These Oasis strings are option 3) and are designed for DGBE tuning. Other vendors sell very similar strings. I think these are just as good as the higher priced options and come from a great USA-based vendor. I think all fluorocarbon has the same density, there is no magic bullet to get tighter strings. If you look at reviews for other vendors you see comments about slack strings or duller sounding D and G strings too. At least one vendor sells >1mm fluorocarbon D strings, but that is going to be a tight fit in the nut and stiffer.

Just like wound strings sound and feel different, slack fluorocarbons sound and feel different too. It takes some getting used to and some Ukuleles may not like them. But since each pack has enough for two sets, if you do not like them you can use the B and E with a wound D and G from a set where you did not like the non-wounds maybe, or buy a D and G wound two-string set using B and E from this one, or add a ~0.034 nylon for a high D. Lots of ways to use these strings, but when used DGBE as intended, D and G will be slacker and B and E will be tight, that is how they are meant to be, I think. It then becomes personal preference.

I found the 4th (D) string way too slack and not usable when tuned to D for DGBE. I question the string set matching. Read the other reviews here too, there is a 3/3 pattern. Have a look at the PhD GCEA baritone strings' diameters for example, the material density is going to be similar, remember they are GCEA though.

these strings sounded poor on my Ohana BK-70RB, lost volume and sustain compared to other strings I have tried, sounded dead. They seem to have an odd sticky feeling that causes annoying squeaky noise with my fingers.

OASIS GPX Clear Fluorocarbon - Baritone

Characterization: 8000 series are bright, 8100 are warm.
Baritone strings are 8200. Did not know what to expect.

Package makes two sets. Strings individually packed in marked envelopes. Puzzling notation on string 2 identified as “2nd/E String”. Perhaps it is also used for Tenor and up as the “E” string.

Instrument: Pono MBSP Baritone

After initial installation. 1, 2, & 3 have good tone, sustain, and brilliance. #4, the “D” string is slappy; it seems to hit the fretboard quite easily. Tension on all four strings seems to be highest on 1, which feels very tight, decreasing to 4 which is correspondingly very loose.

After settling in, tone in trebles still clear; D is mundane and G became so as well. Both too loose to develop good sound. With strong strumming, this set has harsh sound which seems to come from a lot of string slap on the neck.

Strings must match the instrument. While the Oasis strings my do well on some, they are not a good match for my Pono.
